Thomson Hospital launches new eye health facility

Thomson Hospital will be offering free vision screening for children and funds screening for adults together with other fun activities at the launch.

Thomson Hospital Kota Damansara (THKD) announces the launch of its new Eye Health facility following the expansion of its new building.

Surrounding community from Kota Damansara neighbourhood including doctors, opticians, optometrists, and business partners was present at the opening.

Following the opening, free vision screening for children and funds screening for adults were offered among other fun activities.

“Our team of consultant ophthalmologists and optometrists is building awareness on the importance of eye screening and management of eye care,” said THKD CEO Nadiah Wan.

More than 100,000 Malaysians over the age of 50 suffered from permanent blindness with 38 percent cases caused by severe cataracts reported the 2014 National Eye Census 2014.

While early detection could prevent impairment several eye disorders may not have any warning signs until later stages when vision is already affected.

“Even though you may not experience vision-related issues, it is advisable for everyone to undergo eye screening once every two years, regardless of age, socioeconomic status, or gender.

“Vision screening as early as one year of age and eye checks are also highly recommended before they enter kindergarten or primary school,” said Chief Optometrist Yong Ai Chee.

With the new building in operation, THKD has increased its capacity to 559 beds, 11 operating theatres, additional specialist clinics, and a new Oncology and Nuclear Medicine centre.

THKD foresees playing an even bigger role in not only providing services but also in innovating new healthcare solutions.

Eye Health at Thomson Hospital offers a range of ophthalmology services to treat common eye conditions like cataracts, glaucoma, and diabetic retinopathy.

Other optometry services that focus on vision care like sight testing and management of vision changes, contact lens fitting, and aftercare are also offered.
